Writing Prompt #15

#15 Create your own superhero. What special powers would this hero possess? How would he or she use those powers? What would his or her name be?

My fiance decided to help with this one. 

Our hero will be female of the Amazonian build similar to Wonder Woman(trademarked). Her powers would be a combination of incredible strength and martial arts abilities as well as the ability to control the mind but only for purposes of a peaceful outcome. Basically she can only use her psychic abilities if her desire is for a resolution with less carnage. 

Her name is Sara Bella.

Writing Prompt #14

Who is your favorite cartoon character?

I have not watched cartoons in a really long time but back in the day one of my favorites was Doug. He was relatable back when I was in school. In the present time, I watch some animated films and I have quite a few favorites from those too. Merida from Brave is one of my favorite princesses of the Pixar/ Disney line. Followed closely by Belle. I know Belle had a Stockholm syndrome but the fact that she loved to read and grow her knowledge is what makes me connect with her as a character. Merida on the other hand is a strong Scottish princess that is forced to be a prize in a series of contests. They have to fight for her hand in marriage. I just love that they decided to make a movie about a Scottish princess.

Writing Prompt #13

#13 Describe your idea of a perfect vacation.

As a kid my perfect vacation would have been to Florida. Somewhere where there is a beach and maybe somewhere fun to go like an amusement park. As an adult this hasn’t changed much.

As you all know, I am getting married next year. Where will I be going for my honeymoon? Florida, of course. There are many reasons for this but mainly my fiance is in the military and can’t cross the border without express permission to do so. Another reason is because I really want to visit Universal and see the Harry Potter Parks. I think we would both enjoy that.

Vacation also depends on the time of the year and what the weather will be like. As an adult I also bare in mind the cost of going to different places and compare them before I choose. As a kid you don’t think about the cost of the trip, just the fun involved.

Writing Prompt #12

#12 If you could have a party and invite anyone you wanted living or dead, who would be on your guest list? Why?

This is a difficult one, especially now that I am an adult. Just a reminder to everyone, these writing prompts were for the 8^th grade writing level.

The question did not specify the number of people so I will list a few.

Firstly, I would invite Family members that have passed away. I still have so many questions about our family and what happened during the various wars that they lived through and about my family in general.

Next I would invite Jacksepticeye and Markiplier because those guys are really great and could help rig up the gaming section of the party.

Lastly, I would invite an actor from a movie. I am such a movie buff that I can’t decide which one but there are several that are really friendly and would be really cool to hang out with.

Oh and the band of choice would be Skillet or For King and Country. I mean what party can happen without music.

Writing Prompt #11

If a classmate decided to write a book about you, how do you think he or she would characterize you? 

If anyone wrote a book about me they would characterize me as I am; the good and the bad. I believe that a biography or a story should describe the person as they are. We are unique beings. No one is the same as another. Our flaws are what make us extraordinary. I think that is what makes our lives interesting. I often sit and people watch and think about what their life might be like, what they might be going through, and what they are doing that day.

Let’s use me as an example. You can observe me sitting at a Starbucks right this moment. I am sitting at a sort of bar with booth seating facing the room and the coffee machines and baristas, with a glass wall behind me. I am wearing headphones over my head and typing away on a laptop. You can say that I look like a college student because of all the papers and a binder at my side. You over heard me talking to the cashier. I was at traffic court today and I have a headache. I must be pretty stressed out. I occasionally pause to think about what I am writing. My head sways to the music that I am listening to. Then you can branch out to the possibilities. This is where your imagination can go wild. Characterization is subjective. If three people observed me for 20 minutes they might come up with completely different characterizations.

 To answer this question, I do not know what someone would say about me.

Writing Prompt #10

What would you like to change about your town? How could you do it?

I live in a small historic town. As an adult, I would say that the price of living can be changed for people to live here more comfortably. Real Estate is really expensive the closer you get to all of the restaurants and bars. I guess it makes sense to a degree but what if I want a nice apartment or condo closer to all the fun? Even a one bedroom apartment is $1,040 a month depending on where you look. I pay half that staying at home. Either way one of my goals is to have a condo of my own one day.

How could I change this? This change can only happen on a government level. Basically the government would have to do what they do in Europe. A monthly allowance that pays rent and whatever is left for food. You can still work but at least most of your living arrangement is take care of. Either way, I do not work in the government so I do not know what would work and what would not.

Writing Prompt #9

If you could eliminate either crime or pollution which would you choose and why?

Well pollution can be made a crime so; I would eliminate crime and tackle both at the same time.

This is a rather complicated question. Crime harms everyone and Pollution harms everyone. The logical one would be pollution but crime is still a problem. I will examine both sides.

Eliminate Crime and you have a safer environment to live in. Crime can be defined in a number of ways: harm to another person, harm to an animal, harm to a business or harm to the environment. Those are basic definitions but there are so many more. I just simplified it. Pollution can be classified as harm to the environment. Crime in general is breaking the law. There are always consequences for those choices.

Eliminate Pollution and you have a cleaner environment to live in. This is beneficial to all people and creatures on earth. There are several types but air and water are at the top of the list. Cleaner vehicles eliminate air pollution and water filtration systems and ocean cleaning endeavors tackle water pollution.

So my answer is eliminate crime.

Writing Prompt #8

What makes/made you unhappy about school? How could you change this?

Bullying made me most unhappy back when I was in school.

If I could, then I would love to have more school assemblies with guest speakers. When I was in school, guest speakers rarely made an impact on the student body. The anti-drug and alcohol rallies were always corny and awkward. As an adult I think that people that tell their story have the most impact. It hits close to home when someone tells you about something that happened in their school. It becomes more real. I wish I could speak at my high school and tell my story. I was not bullied too badly and I had a few friends. My message would be about being nice to each other just because it’s the right thing to do. You might not like someone but you have to work side by side sometimes. You should be nice especially to someone you think is different for one reason or another. Your act of kindness could make their day and change their life.

Writing Prompt #7

Do you think it is ever a good idea to end a friendship? Why or why not?

I think there are two sides to this question.

It is a good idea because there are solid reasons to end a friendship. One good reason would be betrayal or serious infraction. While you can forgive, the friendship would never be the same after a tough situation. Sometimes people drift apart. That happens too. Some friendships were never strong to begin with. Those drift apart too. I personally do not keep friendships that are damaging or toxic in any way. This is just not a healthy relationship to have. As an adult I am getting pretty good at identifying them. The same rule applies in my romantic relationships as friendships sometimes develop into this. 

It is a bad idea to end a friendship over something silly. If the other person walks away, its on them. Romantic relationships are the worst reason to stop being friends with someone. Sure, your attention is spread thinner but true friends find time for each other. In other words do not fight over guys or gals. The bad reasons are subjective because I might think something is silly but someone else might have a different view on that. For example, I might think of a candle as a candle and blow it out. no big deal but someone else might think that its disrespectful to the host of the party. This is not only, subjective but also has a cultural significance. I agree to disagree in these cases.

I can't change the people around me but I can choose who I bestow with the honor of being called my friend. At the end of the day, taking offense is a what really ends friendship. Forgiveness is not easy but it is a step in the right direction.

Update and Writing Prompt #6

Sorry its been a while.  I have been busy. I ended up losing my job the day after Thanksgiving. I have been looking for a job but its the holidays and no one is hiring. I have been through multiple depression episodes but I am currently doing alright.

Without further ado....Let's get back into the swing of things.

What kinds of books do you enjoy reading? Write a letter to the librarian asking him or her to get more of the types of books you love for the library. (Since I am no longer in school, I used the director of my local library.)

Dear Dr. Morley of Atlanta-Fulton Public Library, 

I really enjoy coming to the library to check out books and to study in general. The kinds of books I like most are Mystery-Thriller.  While you have an adult section, it is quite small. I would love to see more of that genre. Dan Brown just came out with a new book. There are a few more authors I would love to see also. I have attached a short list.

I would love to elaborate more on this one. I have many favorite authors and genres but most books can now be digitally downloaded into an e-reader. The library is best used as a study hall rather than anything else. Also small children may enjoy the library because it has a large childrens section. Even then, so many kids are in the digital age these days. Very few pick up a physical book. I think that my generation of people that were raised in the 90s are the last generation to really love physical books like Novels. These days the only books I have seen gifted to people are about a specific topic, like wine or a hobby-specific topic like knitting or stones. The vast majority of people can get any information they want from the internet.

Writing Prompt #5

Choose an event in your life that would make a good basis for a book. Explain why other people would be interested in reading about your experience.

I would probably be practical and say that a book can be written about my job search. It may help other people better understand how to look for work and the steps they need to update their resume as well as what to wear.

Job searching is really hard work. That's right. I said it. Job searching is a job in and of itself.

The first thing is to make sure your resume looks good. The next thing would be knowing what you are looking for. Next would be a spreadsheet to keep track of the places where you applied and to make a point to call them back after a week. Lastly, make sure your business casual wardrobe is up to par.

Each of these topics can have a chapter all its own.

Writing Prompt #3 and #4

Describe your favorite place and time to read. Why is it so special?

I like reading on my bed in my room or at my desk. I am most active after 4pm so I like to read when I can focus the best. However, if the book has me hooked then I can read it any time anywhere. An example of this was when I was reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. I could not put my e-reader down. I read that book and its sequel very quickly as the story line had me hooked in.

Describe a book you enjoyed so much that you wished the story would continue. Write a letter to the author, encouraging him or her to write a sequel.

Dear writers of The Tribe,

I know this was not initially a book but the story was written by someone. After that series ended, I really wanted more. I guess that’s because there was supposed to be another season but it was cancelled. I guess this is 16 years late but I would love to have a supplementary text written to explain what happened to the characters after they floated off on a boat.

The same goes for Higher Ground. I would love to know exactly what happened to those kids and if they found the healing they so desperately searched for.

Writing Prompt #2

Which member of you family would make a good character for a book?

I would say, probably, my mom. She is super expressive and is always the life of the party but her life is also never dull.  There is always something going on in her life. As a kid, I knew my mom as the clownish type. For example, my toys always seemed to develop personalities and move around in unique ways. When I got older, my mom was always the one to plan the New Years Party, and it was always a blast. She was always the creative, artsy one. We may not see eye to eye on a personal level but mom always knew how to make life interesting.

Writing Prompt #1

Describe what it would be like if your favorite book character lived next door to you.

My favorite male book character is Robert Langdon from Dan Browns books. He is a famous symbologist and professor of symbology.

I imagine that if he lived next door I would pop in for a cup of tea and sit and talk about a symbol I found somewhere or a cipher I want to write. I can picture his house. Shelves full of books, and various historical artifacts everywhere. His desk is piled over with papers and texts. His laptop is drowning in a river of projects, assignments and essays that he was grading or writing.

My favorite female book character is Louisa Clark from Jojo Moyes books Me Before You and After You. She took care of a quadriplegic man and ended up falling in love with him.

I imagine that she has flowers all over her front steps. She is a bright and bubbly personality with eccentric clothing choices. I can see us having coffee at a cafe and laughing really hard. I can see us hanging out at her house for her birthday and her freaking out over something or other. Her reactions to things put a smile on my face and I imagine she would be a really sweet neighbor to have.

I was going to list Anastasia Steele from 50 Shades but I think her situation is really different than anyone ever expected. I would say I like her in the last couple books of the series. She is a working woman with a super rich now husband. I can't imagine ever having the income to live any where near her and Christian Grey. I can picture the two of us meeting for coffee outside her office building and discussing some new, up-and-coming author who's manuscript landed on her desk.

Anyways the next prompt will be written when I feel up to it. Lemme kick this cold first.

200 Writing Prompts Project

Ok so this is something I always wanted to do in my own time. I have this neat little book of writing prompts. There are 200 of them. If I do 2 each day that I want to write something then it would take me approximately 4 months to complete. If they are short, I might do more. I think this exercise will cause me to dig deep within. This is also an excellent way to get to know me.

I will put in my best efforts to stick to this.
